LETTER FROM THE CAMP DIRECTOR

Dear Fisherman,

It is almost time again for the Father / Son Fishing Retreat at Lake Forest Ranch.  So start pulling out your fishing gear, practice your casting, and reserve the dates April 13-14, 2012 for great fun, fishing, and spiritual growth.

The retreat is open to any man and his son(s), or man without sons who will spend the weekend as a fishin’ buddy with a young man whose dad is not available.  We will have boys from the Palmer Home for Children in Columbus, boys from the Baptist Children’s Village near Louisville, and sons of deployed men from the Columbus Air Force Base.  Also, you may bring any young boy who does not have a father available.

Along with fishing there will be times for fun, games, Bible study, singing and just hanging out  together.  We will have two great Bible study times led by Lewis Harrell who is Minister of Evangelism & Discipleship at First Baptist Church in Pontotoc, MS.   Music will be led by Adam Walker from Carthage, MS.  Adam has been a part of the LFR summer staff for several summers.

Registration will take place from 5:00 - 6:45 pm Friday evening April 13.  The retreat will officially begin at 7 pm with supper. For those able to arrive early, fishing will be available beginning at 3:00 that afternoon.  The weekend will conclude after a fish fry supper Saturday evening April 14.

Costs for the retreat will be $60.00 per man and $40.00 per boy (age 7-18).  The fee includes four meals, one night’s lodging, the fishing (no license required), and all the recreation and program fees.

Be sure to bring plenty of fishing gear.  Several years ago the lake was restocked with Largemouth Bass, Red Ear & Blue Gill Bream, and Channel Catfish.  There are quite a few Crappie in there too, though we aren’t sure how they got there.  Live bait will work extremely well for all of these fish.  There are some fairly large bass in the lake so you might be able to catch a big one.  You don’t want to miss the great time we will have together and on the lake.  Feel free to bring a small boat and trolling motor.  A few boats will be available here at the camp too.  Bring extra clothes just in case the big one pulls you in.  Don’t forget to bring a sleeping bag (or twin sheets), a blanket, a pillow, towels, soap, and your Bible.

SPECIAL NOTE:

All college age men who would like to attend and be a fishin’ buddy with a Palmer boy, BCV boy, or CAFB boy may attend at no charge!  Any man who signs up to be a fishin’ buddy with one of those boys will not have to pay the registration fees for the boy, but paying for your own fee will be appreciated.  Please bring extra fishing tackle in case any of the boys don't have enough. To fish with any of the above mentioned groups of boys, contact Shannon Hammett at (662-418-0328) or Chuck Moore at (662-617-5397).

If you plan to join us, please fill out the Reservation Form and mail it to us along with a $20 non-refundable deposit per team (or go to the Registration page and input your information online).  Your balance will be due upon arrival.
